Fun winter activities

| 0

The end of 2017 is just around the corner, but for all of us in the Central New York area, winter is not. Our team knows what it’s like to spend months in the cold, snowy winter around Syracuse, so we wanted to take a moment and reflect on what keeps us entertained during these long winters.

Cold outside, warm Biscotti inside

Biscotti Cafe in Syracuse is the real deal when it comes to tasty baked treats. Most of the pastries and cakes are made from scratch daily, and if you’re looking for a place to plot down and get some work done, look no further. Both Esmir and Veldin agree that Biscotti’s is the spot to do just that.

“I like to visit Biscotti’s all year, but especially in the winter. Whether it’s with friends, family or my wife. It’s a beautiful scene to watch snowfall on N Salina while indulging in some of the best desserts in Syracuse with a cup of coffee or tea.”

“I second that. I have been to Biscotti’s a few times, and even got my wife’s birthday cake from there. It was absolutely delicious!”

Skiing and snowmobiling

The Syracuse area sure has plenty of snow to get outside and enjoy some winter recreation. If you’re looking to ski or snowboard: Toggenburg Mountain, Labrador Mountain, and Snow Mountain are just a few places within distance. For more options, sledding at Stone Hill Quarry Art Park is a great family-friendly spot, and Strawberry Hill is a great secret location. Esmir and Brett shared some trips they both like to take as well.

“As a Christmas present for my girlfriend Taylor, I rented us a couple of snowmobiles through Rasmussen Snowmobile Rentals. Neither one of us has ever ridden a snowmobile, but I’m pretty sure it’s going to be something to remember!”

“I also like to go skiing at Song Mountain, but going to a Syracuse basketball game is a great winter activity too!”

Winter animals

Brett and Veldin both have pets, and both enjoy movies. Moving here from San Diego, Brett drove nearly 3,000 miles with two cats in a small car. Veldin regularly talks about his little Dachshund (weiner dog).

“It’s a regular cat farm at our home. We also adopted a third cat from the CNY SPCA over the summer, and we’re beginning to work as volunteers there as well. Our newest cat loves to take a stroll on her leash in the snow.”

“I have a 3 year old mini dachshund by the name of Penny. She really enjoys going for walks and we try to walk her at least 3 times a day. During winter and snowy days that becomes an issue, even if there is an inch of snow on the ground she refuses to be walked. I have heard a lot about the Syracuse Zoo, and we plan attending sometime soon.”
